Sports facilities supervisors with the Town of Danville Recreation, Arts and Community Services Department and youth athletics coaches from the Scorpion Lacrosse Club and Mustang Soccer League dedicated a resurfaced 110,000-square-foot permeable synthetic-turf multi-sport field and precision-shielded LED field lighting on Sunday afternoon at Diablo Vista Park at 1000 Tassajara Ranch Drive (at Camino Tassajara) in eastern Danville. Bordered by the Tassajara Creek trail corridor with sweeping views of Mount Diablo, the fourteen-acre community park hosts more than 2,400 weekly youth lacrosse, soccer, and flag-football athletes.

Replacing a ten-year-old synthetic carpet whose fibers had worn down under heavy cleat wear, athletic field contractors laser-leveled the permeable elastic shock pad and installed dual-fiber slit-film and monofilament polyethylene turf tufted with permanent white unified soccer and boys-and-girls lacrosse boundary lines. Infilled with 100 percent natural organic cork and washed silica sand, the dust-free playing surface stays up to 22 degrees cooler than crumb-rubber fields during early-autumn practices and drains winter rainstorms at more than thirty inches per hour.

On the four 70-foot galvanized steel light poles surrounding the pitch, electricians replaced legacy 1,500-watt metal-halide lamps with thirty-two Musco TLC-for-LED luminaires equipped with deep-visor glare shields. The directional optics cut skyglow and spill light at the Tassajara Ranch residential property line by 82 percent while reducing town sports-lighting electricity consumption by 64 percent.

The $680,000 field and lighting modernization program was approved by the Danville Town Council using Park Capital Reserve funds and youth sports user-fee contributions. Families can check field allocation schedules on the Town of Danville Parks and Facilities Portal.
