Transportation planners with the Town of Danville Transportation Department and transit operations managers from County Connection inaugurated a shaded brick-and-timber passenger boarding pavilion and inductive opportunity-charging pad on Sunday morning for the zero-emission electric downtown community trolley at the Danville Livery & Mercantile at 400 Sycamore Valley Road West. Operating free of charge every Friday evening, Saturday, and Sunday on a fifteen-minute loop between the Danville Livery, the Historic Hartz Avenue shopping district, the Village Theatre, and the Iron Horse Trail plaza, the vintage-styled battery-electric trolley reduces weekend parking congestion across downtown Danville.

Crafted to match the turn-of-the-century equestrian carriage architecture of the Livery, the new 28-foot boarding pavilion features reclaimed red-brick columns, a standing-seam copper roof, heated wooden waiting benches, and level curb-height boarding ramps for wheelchairs and strollers. A solar-powered high-contrast e-ink digital arrival display announces real-time trolley countdown minutes in both visual text and push-button spoken audio.

Embedded flush inside the asphalt bus pullout bay, a 120-kilowatt wireless inductive charging pad automatically delivers a four-minute battery top-off whenever the 28-passenger Gillig-built electric trolley pauses at the Livery terminal. This automatic opportunity charging allows the shuttle to run continuously from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM without returning to the Concord bus yard midday.

The $340,000 transit plaza and wireless charger project was funded through a Bay Area Air Quality Management District Transportation Fund for Clean Air grant and Town of Danville Measure J local Return funds approved by the Town Council. Riders can view live trolley route maps on the County Connection Official Portal.
