Athletic facilities supervisors with the Town of Danville Recreation, Arts and Community Services Department and league board representatives from San Ramon Valley Girls Athletic League (SRVGAL) and Danville Little League dedicated two resurfaced permeable synthetic-turf softball and youth baseball infields on Saturday evening at Sycamore Valley Park at 2101 Holbrook Drive off Camino Tassajara in Danville. Serving more than 1,100 youth softball and baseball players across spring, summer, and fall developmental divisions, the twin diamonds previously lost an average of twenty-four practice and game days each winter and early spring due to saturated clay skin infields.

Over a seven-week athletic field renovation, sports-turf contractors excavated the compacted redbrick clay skin across Diamonds 1 and 2, installed a ten-inch laser-graded open-aggregate drainage blanket tied into perimeter collector pipes, and laid dual-tone terracotta-and-emerald synthetic turf cushioned with organic cork-and-coconut infill. Unlike crumb-rubber turf, the natural cork infill remains up to 25 degrees cooler on sunny afternoons and drains at more than thirty inches per hour so teams can take the field immediately after a rainstorm.

Along the first-base and third-base lines, crews replaced aging chain-link dugout roofs with architectural perforated-steel shade canopies and widened dugout entrances for wheelchair accessibility. Electricians also mounted wireless solar-powered LED scoreboards visible from the Sycamore Valley Road spectator berm.

The $560,000 athletic field modernization program was approved by the Danville Town Council with matching capital contributions from local youth sports associations. Coaches, umpires, and Danville families can check real-time field status updates on the Town of Danville Sports Fields Portal.
