The Town of Danville officially launched registration on Tuesday for an expanded winter cohort of its Youth Civic Leadership Academy, providing high school students across the San Ramon Valley direct hands-on experience in municipal policy, community planning, and local entrepreneurship.

Administered by the Danville Parks and Community Services Department in collaboration with the Danville Area Chamber of Commerce, the semester-long fellowship pairs thirty local teenagers with municipal department directors and small business mentors. Student participants will engage in regular study sessions at Town Meeting Hall on Front Street, exploring local government budgeting, historic preservation along Hartz Avenue, and environmental stewardship along the Iron Horse Trail.

Danville Mayor Robert Storer praised the initiative during Tuesday's town council briefing, stating that investing in adolescent civic education prepares the next generation of civic leaders while channeling youthful creativity toward community problem-solving. Each leadership fellow will collaborate on a capstone community service initiative addressing youth mental health resources, downtown pedestrian walkability, or volunteer recruitment for regional nonprofits.

San Ramon Valley Unified School District educators commended the program for bridging classroom civics curriculum with practical civic service in the Tri-Valley. High school participants who complete the eighty-hour service requirement will earn official municipal recognition and credentialed community leadership credits transferable to academic college applications.

Applications for the upcoming winter term are open through Friday, November 13, to all ninth through twelfth-grade students residing in Danville, Alamo, and San Ramon. The town recreation department will host an informational student and parent orientation evening on Tuesday, October 27, at 7:00 PM inside the Danville Community Center on Front Street. Prospective applicants can download program guidelines and register online through the official town recreation portal.
